Night time is the right time...

...for taking a few quick photographs of Shepherd's Bush, specifically in and around O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire which really is such a iconic building for us, for music and for the performers who grace the stage there. I'm not alone in thinking this, Beyonce chose the Empire for a (semi) secret concert on Monday night because it was such a "historical venue". Unfortunately this is where the similarities between myself and Beyonce end.*

I love that sense of humour will always be alive and well in Shepherd's Bush.

* I did NOT take these pictures whilst stalking Beyonce on Monday night.

  1. It's fantastically murky round the back there. My abiding memory of the Empire is not the many superb gigs I've seen there, oddly, but driving past the then BBC Television Theatre on childhood visits to London. It was exciting because it was the building you'd see on the opening titles of "Wogan". What a child of the 80s I am.

  2. I've been backstage at the Empire. It's not glam by any standard. Good on Beyonce though for choosing it for her 'secret' gig. She could've had the pick of much posher venues. This demonstrates how cool and historically important Shepherds Bush Empire is. It's still my favourite venue in London. And not just because I live here either. Convenient though it is :)

  3. I agree with you both Callum and Chris.

The Empire's lack of glitz and glamour, and yet provision of excellent sound, atmosphere and historical association to TV production makes it a uniquely special place. The fact it's also to be found in the heart of the Bush only makes it all the more special to us Bush folk...
